St. John’s, Newfoundland — Where Canada begins…
Continued from home page
Perched on the shore of the North Atlantic, the city boasts a rich cultural life and is home to a mix of people said to be some of the friendliest on earth, which may account for the city’s low crime rate — one of the lowest in Canada.
In comparison to other Canadian cities, St. John’s has the third mildest winter. And it’s a place where everybody talks about the weather with friends and strangers alike. They say you know you’re from Newfoundland and Labrador when March arrives and you consider anything above 5° C to be shorts and tee-shirt weather.
As is true for the rest of Newfoundland and Labrador, St. John’s architecture, politics, food, music, literature, festivals and linguistic idiosyncrasies are always interesting and most often fun.
